We would like to thank all parents and guardians for your continued support of our school community. Parent Appreciation will be held this Friday, May 22 from 8:45-9:05. Come say hello to teachers around the outside of the school and grab a thank you treat! We appreciate you!

Congratulations to all of our Track and Field Athletes who participated in the District Track Meet on Thursday. We are so proud of all of our Thunderbirds that represented Cliff Drive! Special thanks to Ms Homeniuk and Mr Connaughton for their work to organize both track meets; to the staff who gave their time to coach; and to parents who drove our track participants to the meets! We appreciate you!!

Welcome to Kindergarten:
Tuesday, May 26 – 1:45 pm to 2:30 pm
The second session will be held on May 26th, with children doing activities in the gym and a parent session in the Library. Please enter the school through the Gym doors at the back of the school.

CLASS PLACEMENT:
During the month of June, the teaching and administration staff will be deciding on the preliminary placement of students for our next year’s class compositions. Previous academic success, social dynamics, placement history, gender balance, and overall classroom dynamics are all components for consideration when we make up the classes.  The ultimate goal is to place your child in a classroom in which they will flourish academically and socially.

• If you know of circumstances of which you feel we should be aware when considering the placements, please forward your thoughts to Ms Harrison (not the classroom teacher) in writing or by email (lharrison@deltaschools.ca) by June 1^st, 2026. This information will be shared with staff members and considered when the class lists are made and when they are finally confirmed, typically in September.
• If you have a request to make, it must include educational reasons that explain how your child will benefit. Please do not request individual teachers.
• Remember that we have many considerations in placing students and cannot guarantee to meet your request.

Understandably, the final decisions for student placements are left to the school administration.

Summer Literacy and Numeracy Program:
The Delta School District is offering a free, enriching program for families seeking to support their child(ren) in strengthening Literacy and Numeracy foundational skills. The program at Hawthorne Elementary is available for students entering Grades 1–7.
SESSION ONE

Cell phones / Personal Devices (including Apple Watches)
A reminder that in Delta Elementary Schools, personal digital devices are not to be used at any time during the school day, including during instructional time, recess, lunch and field trips. Students who bring them to school must check them in with their classroom teacher, who returns them at the end of the day. For illness or emergencies, the school office will make a call to reach parents/guardians.
